Being Sick and Cutting Teeth

Aww, our sweet little girl has been so sick! There are many joys of parenting but this is really one of the downfalls. I hate seeing our little girl who is normally so happy and excited by the many discoveries she makes each day, suffer and be so sad. She came down with a fever last Wed afternoon and the weekend went downhill from there, we thought it was just teething until her fever spiked to just shy of 104. She was such a sweetheart for feeling so poorly though. All she wanted to do was cuddle and really she didn't get that fussy. Not until Sunday. The fever finally broke on Sat and then Sunday morning we noticed another little tooth starting to poke through. That afternoon she let loose with all the pent up emotion of several weeks of a runny nose, 2 weeks of coughing, a few days of a pretty darn high fever, and the pain of a cutting tooth. Whew! She's starting to settle back down now thankfully. Except for this darn cough! She'll lie down for a nap and wake herself up with her coughing fits. I've got the humidifier running now and that seems to have helped a tiny bit. Oh how I wish codeine cough syrup was alright for infants! That stuff works miracles!

World's Coolest In-Laws

I wanted to send a big Hoorah out to my in-laws. That's my mother and father-in-law up there! How cool are they?? Chad's parents were just in Hawaii having the time of their lives. Good for them too, based on the pictures they totally lived it up. They deserved the trip and I'm so glad they had such a fabulous time. I gotta say, Hawaii is definitely on my top 10 for places I will someday visit. After seeing the pix that Tina sent us, Hawaii is definitely climbing the charts!

Pearly Whites

Chad and I came down to Robin and stayed the night with my parents last night. We see the Dentist out in Downey, it gives us a good excuse to make the trip every once in a while. No we don't live that far from my parents but you know how busy life can get. So we came out and had a good time. Mom made cheese fondue for dinner and I about died from calorie overload. Oh man, it was SO good! Then for dessert? Chocolate fondue with strawberries and bananas and nuts. I've never slept so guiltlessly! Thanks mom!
We had our dentist appointments today and I have mixed emotions about the whole experience. Never has a hygienist been more aggressive, and yet, my teeth have never felt so clean! I was really nervous for poor Chad. Don't tell Phillip, but Chad hasn't been to the dentist since before we were married, come to think of it I don't think he went while we were engaged either. That's 4 plus years people! You can imagine the kind of bill I was anticipating with upcoming visits and how thankful I am that he has double coverage on dental (that is all free by the way!) Imagine my surprise when we left the office with no follow ups scheduled for another 6-12 months. That's right! NO CAVITIES!! Congratulations Chad!!

Welcoming Change

We had Stake Conference weekend before last and Chad and I decided that our lives were in serious need of some renovating! Among other things, we've now made it a goal to get up at 6 every morning so we can spend 20 minutes on personal scripture study. That frees up the evening so that we can now spend time studying the scriptures as a family. We've set an alarm for the evening so that it doesn't matter what we get ourselves involved in... the alarm doesn't allow us to forget! This has worked well for us, you can imagine. So far things have been working out really well. Except that our 9 month old daughter doesn't seem to appreciate the length of the chapters in the Book of Mormon. hmmmm. So now we're struggling to come up with some age-appropriate study so that our daughter can learn to appreciate scripture study rather than just endure it. Obviously I don't expect her to sit quietly for 10 minutes with her arms folded and her head bowed in reverance of what we're attempting here but the idea is to make the effort to have it be something directed and geared specially for her. You know, establish the pattern. Any ideas that have worked for you?
