Happy Birthday Chad!

Chad turned the big 32 on March 8th. It's a lot of fun to celebrate birthdays. We have a tradition when it's your birthday you can pick any cake you want. What did Chad pick? The party mix Betty Crocker cake. What?! True story. He likes the simple box mixes. Makes my life easy I guess.

I struggled a bit trying to come up with a gift idea for him. I'm just not creative in the gift giving department and it's not from lack of caring! I just think I lack creativity in many forms in my genes. I thought and thought and thought. Jaedyn had no trouble coming up with a gift. She wanted to make Dad something. So she barred him from her room and resurfaced a bit later with...

A ROBOT!

It was so sweet and thoughtful. I think this was the first time that doing a gift was entirely self initiated. And she was pretty excited to show him too!

As a side note, don't judge, I realize his last hair cut was much too short. But what a saint he is. He never complained once. And the nice thing about short haircuts? I only have to give them half as often! Hmmm... I feel an idea coming on :)

Evidence that Jaedyn is definitely her Daddy's daughter.

Oh bummer. You can't tell it's a soccer cake. That's ok it didn't really look that good. Chad requested a soccer ball for his birthday... I guess I can be creative :)

So being stumped as to what bday present to give Chad, like I mentioned, I thought and thought and thought. And finally I had an original idea! But it took me a bit to get around to it. About a week later, I was sitting at work on a break, looking up tickets the upcoming Real soccer game (March 22). Chad has mentioned a few times in the past that he would love to see a live soccer game. Well, we have a professional team an hour and a half away!

I am not joking, as I was in the act of of pricing tickets, I get a text. I believe it read something like this "Hey Angela, if you haven't gotten me anything for my birthday yet, StubHub has a good deal on tickets to the Real game end of March. That'd be cool". Seriously?!

Bummer. I almost didn't do it just because of that text. Surprises aren't any fun if they aren't really surprises. Instead I poo-poo-ed the idea to high heaven. "no fun!" "I have a nursing baby" "What would we do with the kids" "that doesn't really interest me but I could get you a ticket" etc etc. He claims he didn't see through it.

I'm not even going to try to be creative ever again!

We had to park a mile away and with us both being directionally dysfunctional (he's much worse than me, I might add. That's pretty sad) I thought we had better take a picture of the crossroads we parked off of. You know... just in case.

I asked him as we left the car, "Do you want your sunglasses?" He responded with a "nah". We were sitting in our seats maybe 10 minutes when he started complaining about the sun. Men, listen to the wisdom of your wives! haha. Thus the souvenir... problem solved... happy birthday... again :)

Thank you Valerie and Luis for not only watching our hooligans, but also for acting excited to do so! We had a really good time... and so did they!

Chad really got into the game and it was hard not to feel the emotion of the game. It has been a loooooong time since I've gone to a live game of any sort but I do believe this was my first professional game. The crowds are crazy emotional! There is no such thing as a fair call... unless it's against the other team. Language, glad we left the kiddos for that reason alone! Oh, and the game was a tie. Or is there a special term for that in soccer? I asked Chad later if the reaction of the crowd bothered him at all cuz it was kind of negative. Nope. That's what you expect at professional games. Oh.

Love you babe! Thanks for the memories!
