January has been true to its reputation this year. It is so cold! It's a whopping 6 degrees outside as I write this. That wouldn't be so bad... but the wind is also blowing! We jumped out of the car for church today and you could hear the sudden squeals that issued forth from all our mouths in this amazing chorus of sound. We had loaded up in the garage and had no idea how cold it was. We all took off running for the doors of the church simultaneously. I'm sure we were a sight in our dresses and heels. Well most of us anyway. Chad was NOT wearing heels.
We have actually gotten snow this year along with the cold, which is a relief. The reservoirs up here have been getting lower and lower the last few years and last year it was approaching alarming lows. To the point that many areas were put on water restrictions. Such a common commodity so easily taken for granted! The snow sure makes for beautiful scenery and pictures though. These of course were captured by my rising photography star and beautiful scenery appreciator, Jaedyn.
Lucky Ebony had a palate spacer placed at the first of the year. Nice of them to let her get through the holiday food rush before placing it, yeah? Her upper jaw is smaller than her lower and she has a bit of a crossbite so for the next several weeks we are tasked with using a key each night to rotate her spacer which causes it to gradually expand sideways. She has been such a trooper! This kid loves her gum and sweets but turns almost everything down these days and is very responsible at reminding me to use the key each evening. She sounds like she has a mouth full of food when she talks but is a champ about it.
I just have to throw this in because she takes so many selfies that I have to capture what life is really like with her LOL. Plus I'll get a great reaction when she sees it in print in our annual blog book!
I got called as the primary chorister last fall... 6 weeks before the primary program! Eeek. That was a bit of baptism by fire. But the kids did great and I'm really enjoying the relationships that are forming. I have some pretty cute kids, a few naughty ones, some great teachers, and a fantastic presidency to work with. Today, they had a teacher training so I danced like a monkey for an hour as I led music for the entire second hour while the teachers were in training. We won't talk about the kid who was carried out cuz he was beyond hyper, or the 2 kids who had chairs collapse on them... what?! Ha. I'm actually enjoying it, I don't mind the noise and fun so long as the kids can settle down reverently when it's needed, and most of them do this pretty well. Singing time should be fun and spiritual and educational all in one crazy bundle and I WANT the kids to enjoy it!
One thing I appreciate about my current selfie queen is that she is very good at capturing and chronicling our daily lives. I need to take lessons from her because we frequently have get togethers and I am so sad after we leave and I realize I don't have any pictures of the fun times! This kid also has me recently, very excited.
Last year Chad and I found out about this local production of Rob Gardner's Lamb of God. We went to check it out and were blown away by the talent. So we joined the choir and were able to be a part of a really cool musical experience. If you have never sung with a full on orchestra... you are missing out! Anyway, My parents brought the kids to watch the performance that we did at Jensen Hall in Pocatello and they all loved it. So much so that afterward, Jaedyn asked if she could join us the following year. Pretty cool, right? Well the following year is here, and she still wants to do it! So she, Chad, and I went to the opening Potluck last night to kick the season off and will spend the next couple of months of Sundays, gathering with incredible talent as we prepare for this year's Easter production. We will be performing in 4 cities this year and I am so excited that Jaedyn will be such a big part of the experience. I hope she enjoys it as much as I do. The music is so powerful!
We got several inches of snow fall this weekend. It was so pretty and fluffy so we couldn't resist a small adventure. Snow shoeing is something we both would like to do more of, but I feel like we haven't had many opportunities. So we grabbed this one by the reigns and went for it!

I would be remiss if in a January blog post I didn't make some sort of reference to the road conditions. I love where we live... but being in county means we are very neglected when it comes to the snowplows. Our road has luge tracks running down it, several, I kid you not. They grab your tires and take you for a wild ride and if you are not very careful... it can be scary! That's all. LOL. Amy Lane = luge tracks. Bring on the Jamaican bobsledders!
