Bunk Beds and Shared Rooms

Jaedyn has been excited for the longest time at the prospect of sharing her room. For several weeks her delay tactic at bedtime has been "I'm scared cuz I'm all alone" or "But no one is in there with me". Ooooh how that girl loves to delay bedtime :-) She's the queen of delayed bedtimes and has been since she was a year old.

Well with this baby coming (which is another girl by the way... don't feel bad for me, I grew up in a home full of boys, I'm thrilled!) we decided a few months to try and transition the room assignment change would be healthy. Besides, Lilia has been attempting at least poopie training and I don't want to officially potty train til she's out of a crib! So, Walmart.com thank you for the bunkbeds for less than $200 and for mailing them for free to my home so I wouldn't have to borrow someone's truck!

The beds came on Friday night and Jaedyn was ecstatic seeing the stack of boxes on our porch. As a side note, you would seriously not believe the box that the mattress was shipped in! It was about 9x9x40 in ... I had no idea they could do such a thing to a mattress! For a bit I was concerned I'd accidentally ordered an air mattress. But I stray, yet again...

Chad spent a good part of Saturday building bunkbeds and we moved most of Lilia's, belongings, did some rearranging and walaa... we were ready to enter a new era in our lives. (Only a slight feeling of trepidation existed). The kids did great! Jaedyn and Lilia went down after only about 15 min of reminders to get back in bed, which I consider fantastic! Little Lilia who used an entire 6 man tent to sleep 2 weeks ago  in Zion, didn't fall out of bed at all (she did once on the second night and has not since). In fact, I dare say, it's now easier to get Jaedyn to bed! If she gets out, we remind her that her sister needs her in there and she's pretty quick about returning.

But alas... I don't think we've gotten one nap out of Lilia since the switch. Little stinker won't stay in bed and I often find her playing quietly with toys after a 2 hour seclusion in the room. Is that bad? She seems content, and I definitely am. I'm really not ready to forsake those precious naptimes yet.

I'm looking forward to the girls sharing a room! Chad and I listen to the girls giggling in bed at night after lights out and can't bear to shush them. My heart does little flip flops of happiness listening outside that closed door. The noise usually only lasts a few minutes, after all, but I'm sure it's building a stronger and happier relationship with those girls!

I'd take pictures of the beds. Or the room. Or my sweet, precious, sleeping babies. Is there anything equal to the feeling a parent has as they watch one of their little (or big) ones resting peacefully? Doubtful. I would take a bunch of pictures. If I could. But sadly, my camera that put in 8 years of slave labor, has finally called it quits. It died in the middle of an amazing canyoneering experience in Zion 2 weeks ago and sadly left us with no recorded digital memories of the experience. But that is a story for another day...

Here's to hoping for many more giggly nights!
